SECURITY:AN ILLUSION OR A REALITY ?
A 15 year old girl has to return to her home in an auto after being dropped at a stop in her school bus .Time is 02:30 in the noon and she gets into an auto which has around 4 people .After a minute or 2 all the passengers except her get down and her stop is 5 minutes away and the road is all isolated due to the summer heat .The girl is already a timid one but still bags some courage looking at that man of 20's who is busy chewing into his tobacco .As they go on ,the auto is stopped by 2 people coming a bike apparently the auto driver's friends using abusive language and carrying a shabby aura .They also throw weird stares at the girl in the uniform and speak something inaudible to each other .And too mention ,they also smell of cigars all over .And all of a sudden the driver asks her address which he absolutely does not require as he has to drop her at the bus stop .The girl uses her very amateur brain in a sharp way and answers that she has to get down at the bus stop and that too in Hindi so that the Telugu guy thinks she is new to this area and did not understand the question .So now tell me guys that was it a compulsion for a 15 year old girl to go through all this and hide her identity for a 5 minute journey in an auto ?Of course it is necessary as she too knows that she cannot except security even from an auto driver and it does not matter whether he is decent in looks or not as looks can be deceptive .
I guess by now all the readers of this article have understood about what my agenda for today is ?To make things clear I am going to write about whether security for girls just a hypothetical situation forever .I have named my title so because no girl actually knows whether she is safe at a given place and a given point of time .She does not know whether people will stand by her when she needs them .She always seeks for security for her as a reality when it is just an illusion around her .This topic need not be always during Women's Day or some other eve as it is a need of the hour all through the year and I did not find a better time as the girl in the above situation was ME .I thought why can't I make the move by opening up about what I have gone through as many girls are afraid to do so .

I can make out that you people could feel the tension of the girl ( Me)as you read through the para and let me just remind you that it was just a situation that happened to someone else .What if it actually happened to you daughter ,sister ,friend or any other female you know ?And again on the other side for some of you it may not be a huge matter but it is for all the girls who know that they are not even safe in a temple or in the worst cases ,in their families too !I am not telling that the government has done nothing to safeguard women .It did implement many schemes but they promise security materialistically but not mentally and physically .To begin with I want to assert that girls should firstly be secure in their mothers' wombs as it remains to be the first step in making a safe atmosphere for them .Moving on Times of India reported the data by National Crime Records Bureau unveiling that 93 women are being raped in India every day .
Not only but being molested ,sexually and verbally assaulted .When a girl says 'NO' it is a 'NO' and
for your information even marital rape is a crime along with domestic violence.Security for me
along with other girls just does not mean outside our comfort zone but also within it-our homes,
schools and offices too .And other matter of concern for us women remains "ACID ATTACKS".
Guys it is a matter of choice for girls about what they want and you are none to force them .
Guys it is a matter of choice for girls about what they want and you are none to force them .
I have taken this agenda today because
right now we are celebrating Womanhood and Women power for these nine days as a part of the
Dusshera festival .Then what is this-The Durga Puja festivities turned out to be a horrific experience for almost two dozen women in Jehanabad district of Bihar when they were attacked with sharp blades by a group of anti-social elements at the local mela (fair) organised in the town .This has been happening since last 2 years and the administration has taken no measures against it .Not only this there are many reported crimes against women even during these days when we celebrate the being of a Woman .Not safe to go to a medical shop all alone at night ,not allowed to choose a field like sports where parents are afraid they might get molested by their coaches ,not allowed to wear clothes as we wish as there are higher rates of being assaulted then .Mistakes are being committed by ones who are free to do anything while restrictions are for those who are being victimized .Why?
I guess the answer is beyond our scope even though it is in our hands .Yes we can make a change if we want to but we feel the change is over the horizon and is unattainable .It is possible if parents teach their sons to see girls in a perspective of a human but not a toy ,it is possible if boys treat the friendship with girls just as they treat with boys ,it is possible if every sir looks at a student as his daughter ,it is possible when everyone of us make sure that things are as normal and simple for women as it is for men .Tell your daughter to be strong whatever happens and be the support that they wanna see when they are facing troubles .Believe them in what they say as no girl would lie about she being assaulted by either her uncle or her teacher .Let us change our way of perspective as "We see things as we are but not as things are ."
Let us make this world a safer place for women where security for them becomes a reality not a mere illusion as quoted by Susan B.Anthony ,“The day will come when men will recognize woman as his peer, not only at the fireside, but in councils of the nation. Then, and not until then, will there be the perfect comradeship, the ideal union between the sexes that shall result in the highest development of the race.”
And I would like to show my gratitude through this platform to all the fathers ,brothers ,uncles ,husbands ,sirs and friends who tried to make sure that they would secure all the girls along with their own .We have covered a distance in securing women but we have miles to go !
